8s Yellow Team Match Report: 30 August 2009

The 8s Yellow team played away against Green Gully and it was an early morning start – 9.00am. Within ten seconds of kick-off our starting game nerves were settled by a goal. Anton Quoc passed the ball out of a centre cluster of players finding Kyle Muscat who, focussed and without fuss, found the back of the net.

A few minutes later Anton ran along the right flank and from 10 metres on a 45 degree angle slotted in our second goal. Within seconds of the opposition kicking off from the centre after goal, Kyle scored again!

Green Gully showed it could do the same, kicking their first goal within the next 30 seconds. Clearly any lapses in concentration this morning would be taken advantage of by these attentive little kids.

Just before half time Kyle scored his third goal putting our boys with a solid 4-1 lead at the half time break.

Coach Frank, summoned his players and told them how great they were all playing, passing the ball around to each other. Indeed, during the game some of the boys gave each other encouraging words and pats on the back after a good pass or defensive stoppage. It’s wonderful to see this team spirit in boys so young.

Our defence and midfield played well. The Vella brothers, Oliver and Julian played another good game. Julian just missed a goal from a great 15 metre kick and Oliver was solid in defence.

Gabriel Veljanovski again played consistently well. He played all around the ground, running quickly from attack to bolster our defence and was very unlucky not to finish the game with a goal, if not three!

The second half started with another goal by Kyle who on this occasion took on the players up forward and pushed past them. It was a great effort by Kyle who had been sick but did not want to miss the opportunity to play today.

Christian Kadlecik is a bit of a magician. Every now and again he surprises players and spectators alike. His corner kick, with pin point accuracy, found Kyle who finished off nicely with another goal.

With only one reserve and our boys tiring late in the second half, Green Gully managed to score two goals. Green Gully had six players on the bench and they were regularly rotated throughout the game, keeping their players fresh. In effect, it was as if our Yellow team played TWO Green Gully teams today.

Well done boys! You all played with courageous and generous hearts today.

Final score: Sunshine Heights Yellow 6, Green Gully 3.

Match Report 30th August:

Feeling refreshed after our sunny Fiji holiday we made our way to Green Gully Reserve where conditions where not so Fiji like.

After consulting the opposition coach I decided to play 6 players instead of the usual 5 on the field which meant all the kids would remain warm in the cold, blustery conditions.

The 1st half was an even affair with only the one goal separating us at half time after an early goal to Gully. At half time I felt there was plenty of room for improvement and the boys certainly did in the 2nd half.
Our defense was well lead by the very reliable Richard 'The Rock' and 'Hitman' Louie and in fact it was Richard who scored the equalizer with a well timed shot from distance that sailed in the back of the net.

This seamed to spur Gully on as they quickly replied to lead 2-1. Our boys desperately tried to equalize again through the efforts of Jacob 'Thunder' who came close on several occasions. However it was Gully who scored again. Jacob finally got the goal he deserved to keep us in the game 2-3. The hosts went on to score another to seal the game and run out 2-4 winners.

Good contributions where made by all including 'Spiderman' Daniel, 'Magic' Marcus. A special mentioned to our youngest player at the club little Gavin 'Bulldog' on his performance which was his best thus far.

Also I want to thank Frank Muscat for taking both teams last week (and winning) whilst I was away.

Score:

Heights 2 (Richard, Jacob)
G.Gully 4
